Equestrian Apprenticeship Program

For anyone who loves horses and wants to learn all about horse care, stable management, horseback riding and horses, the Epona Equestrian Apprenticeship program is a three month, live-on-site or living off-site opportunity to be surrounded by beautiful horses and learn everything there is to know with a hands-on approach.

Eoona equestrian Apprenticeship program

Horse experience is not required just a commitment to do what it takes to become proficient in horse care, stable management, horse handling and basic horseback riding.

At Epona, horses always come first and learning is mostly from the horses with the assistance of Epona's Head Coach and Horse Trainer.

Program details

Living on-site

For participants living on the Epona Stable property, the program provides a private bedroom for the participant and access to a shared kitchen, laundry facilities and living quarters. The Stable is located in South Surrey, BC, conveniently near bus routes and 176 Street.

The participant will be assigned a minimum of a daily chore in the barn or on the property and will be shown how to work with horses and horse care. Participants have the option of participation part-time (ie. for students who are enrolled in a college or school) or fulltime as active caregivers and caretakers of horses while learning the necessary skills and knowledge.

After three months, the participant will be fully capable and skilled in stable management, horse care and proficient in horseback riding.

This is a learning and educational opportunity for anyone who loves horses!

Living off-site

For program participants living off-site, the program includes the teaching of the True Natural Horsemanship method to become a TNH Generalist Instructor:

The TNH Generalist Instructor is able to teach the basics of horse handling, safety, basic training and communication to the general public on an individual basis only (the Specialist TNH Instructor designation is required for group, workshop, horse training or rider instruction). The TNH Generalist Instructor has an understanding and indepth knowledge of the TNH foundation from which all other specialist rider and horse training is based.

The TNH Generalist instructor receives a certificate upon the completion of the TNH Generalist Instructor workshop and an 80% passing score in the TNH Generalist Instructor exam.

TNH Generalist instructors are people-persons who love to share the humane principles of the True Natural Horsemanship method.

Please see the Epona Academy web site for more information on True Natural Horsemanship.

The participant will be assigned a minimum of a daily chore in the barn or on the property and will be shown how to work with horses and horse care. Off-site participants have the option of participation part-time or as your schedule permits while learning the necessary skills and knowledge within the three month program duration. Participation daily, although available, is not necessary: Quality time as your schedule permits while in the program is the objective.

After three months, the on-site or off-site participant will be fully capable and skilled in stable management, horse care and proficient in horseback riding.

This is a learning and educational opportunity for anyone who loves horses!
